Okay...maybe not "Jesus"

The other day M and I were in the store and there was a display of video iPods. They sat there, in there unbelievable perfection – perfect lines, perfect white, with the little perfect image on the little two inch screen. I just stared at it the way the natives in old movies stare when the white men show them the “hand held fire-makers” or “talking boxes.” I just kept thinking, ‘but that’s impossible. That much information, on this little thing? It’s impossible.” Trying to figure out how an iPod holds all that information is like trying to figure out how CDs work, or batteries. It makes perfect sense when you just kind of “think about it,” but if you think too long and actually try to imagine how it works, your brain seizes up.

The next sensation – and don’t you judge me- was “I MUST HAVE THIS.” It was weird. I don’t usually crave things that resolutely. Maybe it’s the marketing, maybe it’s the slickness, maybe they’re just that damn cool, I don’t know. But I got it, and I love it. It’s the greatest invention since the wheel, or maybe Jesus. I don’t know what video stuff to put on it because how many movies are there that you want instant access to in tiny picture? I have, like, a share of Apple stock, so I rationalize it to myself that by buying one I’m contributing to my retirement. Until that glorious day when I cash in those $4, though, I’m broke.

I honestly can’t tell if I just really wanted it and love it, or if I was a victim of commercialism. The fact that I suddenly HAD to have it is a bad sign, isn’t it. Hm. Maybe it doesn’t matter. If I could just figure out how to dance in silhouette...

Yeah, I saw those at a store over here. I sat there and stared at them, and wished so very badly that I could have one... grumble.

I personally don't understand the iPod craze. They seem so.. useless. They cost much more than what they're worth - I find myself much better off having bought an MP3 CD-player, and some blank CDs. That's about $60 total (and that's with a relatively spendy, high-quality walkman), and virtually unlimited memory. Versus the two-hundred dollars one would spend on 2GB (four standard CD-R's would top that) of memory on an iPod, I feel very ahead with the amount of money I've already saved. The only "downside" to an MP3 CD-player is that you're carrying around as much space as a large stack of CD's, or at least the walkman it's self assuming you're good with one CD all day, instead of a tiny box. While this, of course, may be a problem to those with slim, sexy, figure fitting pockets barely large enough for one to fit his or her hand into (And god no, I am not referring to the clothing you, yourself wear)... Well, I tend to be exempt from this style of clothing.

Good god, sorry about that. Apparently, I have more pent up anger issues towards iPods than I realized. Or perhaps it's just late-night, anti-trend, "fuck the mainstream" mentality. Who knows.

Physically, you remind me of the actor Simon Baker... minus the Australian background/accent, and the red-blonde hair!

Personally I think the video ipods are pointless. Especially when you are at school or something and are trying to keep it discreet. If you are wanting to listen to music, you can't just put it in your pocket, you have to take it out and watch it.

Dont get me wrong, they're cool little devices, but i got the nano ipod so i could listen to it all the time. i couldn't just stare at a tiny screen all the time, my brain would shrink if that is even possible...

i want 1! eye want 1! eye want one! eye want won! aye, wanton (!!!!!!)

i've been waiting for costco to restock them so i can buy one and simultaneously take advantage of the fab return policy.

and yes i know it's become a cultural icon. and yes i know that indie kids across the globe have made it nauseating. but you see, it's just that i've always hoped to dance in silhouette too....

Just resently have I been wanting an ipod...not the video one because I think they're kind of pointless(but cool). Its for those poeple who have nothing better to do with your time than to download videos onto a device that you will probably never watch them on...oh well. It's why we all love technology!
But since I have no job, no allowence and a lack of money..I can't buy one...bummer!
